What is BISA?

BISA is a Registered Student Organization (RSO) at UC Berkeley founded in 1985 and dedicated to fostering a close-knit Indonesian community on campus. Through continuously building a larger yet closer community, we aim to foster lifelong relationships between Indonesians on campus, help our members develop professionally by providing work-related opportunities, as well as to promote and expose the rich Indonesian culture to Berkeley, Bay Area, and beyond. 

Can I join BISA? 

Yes! Everyone interested in Indonesia, our culture, events, and opportunities is always welcome to join BISA! Join our discord channel and follow our Instagram @BerkeleyBISA to get up-to-date information about our events and opportunities. We have an open-door policy and there are no applications necessary to be a member, where all our members have access to our resourceful member’s page which you can access here.

How do I keep up with BISA events?

We are very active on our discord server and our events calendar, so join to make sure you don’t miss anything! We also post major events here on our website and our monthly newsletter that you can subscribe to here, but our central platform for events and announcements is our discord server.

How do I become an officer? 

Officers are selected through an election near the end of every Spring Semester by members of BISA. Generally, candidates will need to submit an application, undergo an interview process, and deliver a speech during the election night. More details regarding the positions, number of roles, responsibilities, and interview periods will be posted on our Facebook Group close to the end of every spring semester.

Where should I go for Indonesian food?

Good question. If you know a place, let us know!

But, don’t worry! BISA will hold plenty of Indonesian food fundraisers throughout the semester, so be on the lookout for that!

How do I support BISA?

The best way to support BISA is to come to our events! We love seeing new faces and it means a lot to us. We also have a ton of fundraising events where you can support us by buying our stickers/merch/food (or buy them in our merch store)!

Who should I talk to about partnerships/sponsors/events?

What is Nusantara?

Nusantara is the largest annual Indonesian cultural event in the Bay Area, hosted annually by the Berkeley Indonesian Student Association. Nusantara celebrates and promotes Indonesia’s rich and diverse culture to various communities across the Bay Area while also giving Indonesians living away from home a place to reconnect to their roots. 

Over 5,000 of our annual visitors will be able to immerse themselves in our culture through traditional food, performances, games, and other engaging activities throughout the day.
